China’s Provisions on the Administration of Algorithm Recommendation in Internet Information Services entered into force on 1 Mar 2022, creating nationwide requirements for algorithm filing, user controls, and content governance.
- 4 Jan 2022 — Final text released. The CAC and three other agencies published the final regulation covering personalised recommendations, rankings, and dispatch systems.
- 1 Mar 2022 — Enforcement date. Providers must file algorithms, label synthetic content, offer opt-out controls, and limit use in labour dispatch, education, and finance.
- 2022 — Supervisory coordination. The State Council highlighted multi-agency enforcement responsibilities spanning algorithm security, antitrust, and labour protection.
