OSTP and NSF Launch NAIRR Task Force — June 10, 2021
OSTP and NSF named the inaugural members of the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) Task Force to design a shared compute and data infrastructure for U.S. researchers.
The NAIRR Task Force brings together leaders from academia, industry, and government to recommend how the United States can provide compute, data, educational tools, and user support for AI research aligned with trustworthy principles.
- Broad access. The task force is charged with ensuring researchers nationwide, including those at under-resourced institutions, can access advanced computing and datasets.
- Trustworthy AI focus. Recommendations must address privacy, civil rights, and security safeguards for shared resources.
- Implementation roadmap. The task force will deliver funding models and governance options for a national-scale resource.
Research partnerships should watch NAIRR outputs to anticipate future grant requirements and shared infrastructure opportunities.
