The inaugural U.S.–EU Trade and Technology Council meeting in Pittsburgh issued a joint statement prioritising coordinated standards, trustworthy AI, and data governance workstreams.
Ministers and commissioners agreed to promote responsible AI and data innovation while protecting rights. The joint statement created dedicated working groups on technology standards, secure supply chains, and global trade challenges with explicit mandates to develop interoperable AI governance tools.
- Working Group 1. Tasked with advancing technical standards, including cooperation on trustworthy AI metrics and risk management.
- Working Group 5. Focuses on data governance and platform regulation, including algorithmic transparency and accountability.
- Regulatory dialogue. The Council committed to exchanging information on emerging AI legislation and enforcement approaches.
