Ten peoples. One shattered world. Your choice.
Every race in Zephara was shaped by the Titans before the Sundering — each carrying the legacy of a fallen god in their blood, their culture, and their unique abilities. Choose your origin. Shape your story.
The Six Core Races
These are the peoples who emerged from the Titans' direct creation — shaped in the image of their patron gods and carrying fragments of divine purpose in their bloodlines. Each has survived the Sundering in their own way, rebuilding civilizations that reflect both their origins and their resilience.
Humans
AdaptableThe most numerous and versatile race in Zephara. Humans lack the specialized gifts of other races but compensate with unmatched adaptability. They learn faster, build alliances more easily, and thrive in environments that would break more specialized peoples.
Racial abilities
- Quick Learner — All skills gain experience 15% faster
- Diplomatic Edge — Faction reputation gains are increased
- Versatile Heritage — Can equip any racial weapon type without penalty
Playstyle: Ideal for generalist builds and players who want flexibility to pivot between combat, magic, and crafting without specialization penalties.
Dwarrow
StonebornBorn from the earth itself, the Dwarrow are master craftsmen and builders whose civilization stretches deep beneath the mountains. Their bodies carry a natural mineral hardness that grants them innate armor, and their connection to stone gives them an almost instinctive understanding of metalwork and architecture.
Racial abilities
- Stone Skin — Natural armor reduces all physical damage taken
- Master Forger — Crafting skills start at higher base levels
- Cold Resistant — Immune to freezing debuffs; reduced cold damage
Playstyle: Perfect for tanks, melee fighters, and crafting-focused characters. Dwarrow excel at holding the front line and forging the best equipment in the game.
Sylvari
Nature-bondedThe Sylvari share an ancient bond with the natural world — forests, rivers, and wildlife respond to their presence in subtle but powerful ways. They are the longest-lived of the mortal races, carrying memories and traditions that stretch back to the age of the Titans themselves.
Racial abilities
- Nature Communion — Bonus to primal magic and herbalism
- Keen Senses — Enhanced perception range; detect hidden enemies
- Swift Movement — Increased base movement speed in natural terrain
Playstyle: Excellent for ranged fighters, nature mages, and scouts. Sylvari thrive in exploration and excel at gathering rare resources from the wilderness.
Sunborn
Flame-touchedThe Sunborn carry the fire of their patron Titan in their veins — literally. Their eyes glow with inner flame, their skin radiates warmth, and their affinity for fire magic is unmatched. They built their civilization around great forges and solar temples, channeling flame as both tool and weapon.
Racial abilities
- Inner Flame — Fire magic spells deal 20% bonus damage
- Heat Resistant — Immune to burning debuffs; reduced fire damage
- Solar Radiance — Light-based abilities have extended range and duration
Playstyle: The premier choice for destruction mages and aggressive spellcasters. Sunborn dominate the battlefield with area-of-effect fire damage and light-based crowd control.
Tide-Kin
AmphibiousThe Tide-Kin dwell where land meets sea, equally comfortable in both domains. Their bodies are adapted for underwater life — gills supplement their lungs, their skin shimmers with iridescent scales, and they can navigate ocean depths that would crush other races. Their civilizations span both surface ports and deep-sea cities.
Racial abilities
- Amphibious — Breathe and fight underwater without penalty
- Water Mastery — Water magic spells cost less and deal more damage
- Depth Sight — Perfect vision in low-light and underwater conditions
Playstyle: Unmatched in underwater exploration and water magic. Tide-Kin unlock entire sections of the world that other races cannot easily access, making them ideal for completionists and explorers.
Grimkin
Shadow-touchedThe Grimkin walk the boundary between light and darkness — marked by Umbros' influence but not consumed by it. They are the most misunderstood race in Zephara, feared for their connection to shadow yet essential in the fight against true corruption. Their immunity to dark magic makes them uniquely qualified to handle Titan Shards without succumbing to Umbros' whispers.
Racial abilities
- Shadow Immunity — Immune to corruption and dark magic debuffs
- Night Vision — Perfect visibility in complete darkness
- Umbral Strike — Melee attacks have a chance to apply shadow damage over time
Playstyle: The stealth and dark magic specialists. Grimkin are devastating assassins and shadow mages, and their corruption immunity makes them essential for Titan Shard story paths.
The Four Beastkin Tribes
The Beastkin were not created directly by the Titans — they emerged from the wild magic released during the Sundering, evolved from the land's most resilient creatures. Each tribe embodies the qualities of the animals they resemble, forming fierce communities in the untamed frontiers that other races avoid.
Fenrathi
Wolf TribeThe wolf-blooded Fenrathi are pack hunters and trackers without equal. They value loyalty above all else and fight with a ferocity that belies their disciplined tactics. A Fenrathi never hunts alone — even a lone warrior carries the strength of the pack in their heart.
Racial abilities
- Pack Tactics — Bonus damage when attacking the same target as an ally
- Keen Tracker — Enhanced tracking ability; can follow enemy trails
- Howl — Area buff that increases nearby allies' attack speed
Playstyle: Co-op specialists and melee flankers. Fenrathi are at their deadliest when coordinating attacks with companions.
Aethori
Raptor TribeThe eagle-descended Aethori inhabit high peaks and wind-swept plateaus. Their hollow bones grant them extraordinary agility, and their raptor-sharp vision can spot movement from miles away. They are scouts, archers, and aerial tacticians who control the battlefield from above.
Racial abilities
- Raptor Sight — Vastly extended visual range; reveals hidden enemies
- Wind Dash — Short-range aerial dodge that ignores terrain
- Precision Strike — Ranged attacks have increased critical hit chance
Playstyle: Ranged damage dealers and scouts. Aethori dominate from distance with precision archery and unmatched battlefield awareness.
Vythrak
Serpent TribeThe serpent-blooded Vythrak are masters of subtlety, poison, and patience. They build their communities in swamps, jungles, and underground networks where their cold-blooded nature gives them an edge. The Vythrak do not rush — they wait, they watch, and they strike when the moment is perfect.
Racial abilities
- Venomous — Melee attacks apply poison damage over time
- Serpent's Patience — Stealth effectiveness dramatically increased
- Alchemist's Blood — Alchemy skill gains bonus; poisons are more potent
Playstyle: Assassins and alchemists. Vythrak excel at stealth approaches, devastating critical strikes from the shadows, and creating the deadliest poisons in the game.
Ursathi
Bear TribeThe bear-blooded Ursathi are the largest and most physically powerful of the Beastkin tribes. They live in alpine forests and mountain valleys, building communities centered around shared strength and mutual protection. An Ursathi does not seek conflict — but when conflict finds them, it ends quickly.
Racial abilities
- Unstoppable — Cannot be knocked back or stunned while above 50% health
- Thick Hide — Natural damage reduction from all sources
- Berserker Rage — Below 25% health, attack damage increases dramatically
Playstyle: The ultimate tank and frontline bruiser. Ursathi absorb punishment that would fell any other race and become more dangerous the closer they are to death.
Faction Dynamics & Racial Relations
The races of Zephara do not exist in isolation. Centuries of trade, war, migration, and political maneuvering have created a complex web of alliances and rivalries that directly impact your gameplay experience.
Racial reputation
Your chosen race affects starting reputation with every faction. Grimkin face suspicion in most human settlements. Dwarrow are welcomed in mining communities. These starting conditions shape your early game but can be overcome — or reinforced — through your actions.
Cross-racial parties
In co-op, mixed-race parties unlock unique dialogue options and quest paths that single-race parties cannot access. Some challenges specifically require the combined abilities of different races working together.
Choose your path
Each race opens different doors, closes others, and shapes the story in ways both obvious and subtle. The full race details — including complete ability breakdowns, lore histories, and faction relationships — are available at Zephara.net.
