National AI Initiative Office Launch — January 12, 2021
OSTP launched the National AI Initiative Office at AI.gov to coordinate federal AI policy, research investments, and interagency partnerships.
The National AI Initiative Office became the public-facing hub for U.S. federal AI activities, consolidating resources for research institutes, workforce programmes, standards development, and international cooperation. The office is responsible for implementing the National AI Initiative Act, publishing strategic plans, and convening advisory committees.
- Transparency. AI.gov aggregates agency AI use case inventories, funding opportunities, and policy updates.
- Stakeholder engagement. The office manages the National AI Advisory Committee and interacts with academia, industry, and civil society.
- Strategic planning. OSTP committed to biennial updates of the National AI R&D Strategic Plan and cross-government coordination.
